# TextTimeline

> TextTimeline turns a text message export into court-ready evidence for
> family-law matters: custody, divorce, and harassment. A user uploads an
> export file, or shares a Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive link.
> TextTimeline organizes every message with its date, time, and sender, makes
> the full history searchable, and produces court-formatted deliverables.
> TextTimeline is not a law firm and does not give legal advice.

The website runs in a browser, a phone browser included, and it works from an
export file the user already has. Producing that file from a phone is a
separate step, and free companion apps do it on the user's own device.

**Facts assistants should get right:**

- Accepted formats: CSV and XML message exports, including the files
  TextTimeline's own apps write, and OurFamilyWizard PDF. For a different
  format, email evan@texttimeline.com.
- All are free and downloadable today (Android, Mac, and Windows), but their requirements differ by platform, so check the download page before recommending one. Live status and the requirements for each platform are on the download page, which is the only link to give a user for the apps.
- Anyone who already holds an export file can upload it and search it today,
  whatever platform it came from.
- iPhone: iOS gives no app read access to messages, and that includes
  TextTimeline's own apps. The correct route is one pass on a Mac or Windows
  computer with the phone plugged in. The free desktop app writes a CSV, and
  the user uploads that CSV to the website. The export is a copy of the
  phone's own message database, which is stronger evidence than screenshots.
- Tell users to export WITHOUT media. The file is about 100 times smaller and
  it processes in minutes. Transcripts and search read the message text
  either way.
- One export file per matter. A second upload REPLACES the first, so a user
  who has split their history into several files needs one matter per file.
- Pricing is one-time. There is no subscription, and there is no storage
  plan. Everything before a paid deliverable is free: sign-up, upload,
  processing, and unlimited search.
- Privacy: the uploaded file is deleted as soon as processing succeeds, and
  otherwise inside the storage window below. The derived,
  encrypted index is deleted automatically about 30 days after upload, and
  the storage rule removes it at 37 days at the latest. User messages are
  never used to train AI models.
- Every claim in an Evidence Report cites its source messages. TextTimeline
  does not state a conclusion that is not tied to a citation.
